Our museum

The museum is housed in the historic Coromandel School of Mines building which was built in 1897, to teach practical and scientific mining skills, geology, assaying, surveying, etc.

In 1954, the building was opened as a historical record of the area's early settlers, their ingenuity and the industries that built the community.

There are 5 buildings, including a jailhouse, an old dairy and workshop shed housing many old tools and artefacts from bygone years.

On display, are currently 22 different exhibitions covering a multitude of local historical collections. The exhibits are updated and changed periodically to ensure ongoing interest.

Whether you're a history enthusiast or just curious about Coromandel's unique legacy, there is sure to be something to interest every visitor.
